Sciatica pain management
I mentioned about my herniated disc problem again coming up :-( after 5 years. I hate this, it completely disrupts the flow of my life but then I guess this is the way of my body telling me to slow down. 5 years back the problem was severe and I had no choice but to get the surgery done. I was bedridden and in severe pain for a month and had no choice. After the surgery my Doctor had told me that this is not the problem which is completely resolved and through out life I need to be careful. But me being me, I cannot go slow. For a year, I was taking all the possible care but then slowly gradually I was again getting into that fast physical mode action.
I was doing ok, I was feeling my back getting strengthened up with regular Yoga and walks, so then I wanted to go a step further and sometime back I hit the gym. This is one mistake I made. Gym is not my place for sure, but then I thought I could do some weights for gaining muscle strength, which is again another big mistake for me. A month back, I started with weights and from there on the pain again surfaced up, and it's been aggravating.
I got the X-ray done, and the doctor told me that there is a problem in the L5-S1 again. I feel miserable, how can I be so stupid with those weights. It's like they are poison for me. But now the damage has already happened, it's not very severe like last time and before it even gets to that stage I want to do everything possible to reverse it. I have stopped all exercises, including Yoga and walks and taking bed rest as much as possible. I am doing physiotherapy daily and in a few days time I also plan to go to the Ayurvedic center and take the problem related specific massage therapy.
The one position that's really helping me right now is this pose, which in Yoga is called Viparita Karani. It is also known as the restorative pose. When the legs are stretched up on the wall, it releases the tension and pressure from the lower back and hips, which helps relieve the pain. I am doing this daily for 30 minutes and finding it very helpful.
Other then this I am very careful about my sleeping posture, it is on the back or side ways with pillow between the thighs part. This is also helping with the tension on the hips. Besides this I am careful with my throughout the day activities, absolutely no bending down, if I need to, I squat.
I am taking all the precautions and hoping that the problem will soon be in control. The sad part is there is no permanent cure for it, there is only a life long management that one can do.
Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
This position is also said to be great for moving blood in the body, I sometimes practice this position. It's sad to hear how many things still don't have cures in this day and age, hopefully somewhere that is being worked on.
You are right, this one helps in many ways. Treating the spine is still the most complicated thing, and a risk also
