And so it begins...

Good morning!!! It is a chilly 7.45am here and I had every intention of writing this at the dining room table... put my wooly gown on and everything, but the fur child came to beg that I do my writing and coffee drinking from the bed instead, lol (smart dog, haha!) So, in bed we are!

.......

This morning I woke up with one thing on my mind… to come back to myself. To remember what makes my own heart warm and my soul stretch out like a lazy cat in the sun. It’s too easy to forget, and we do! We get caught up in deadlines, dramas and everyone else’s noise… until the little things that actually make us “feel” alive get shoved to the back.

Today I’m pulling them right back in front. Kicking off the day with some sourdough baking to warm the house with the smell of freshly baked bread, then some time with my bare feet on the ground, and likely a minute or ten in the sun where the fur child rests his head against my leg while I drink my tea. These tiny moments cost nothing… but they feed me in ways nothing bought ever can.

I’ll be out in my garden today, I can already hear the birds fussing about, busy with their own morning rituals. There’s work to do… weeds, watering, planting… but mostly I just want to be there. To let the sun find my shoulders and to lose track of time while I go about my business.

As you can see from the above photo's, I have been collecting cardboard boxes, 5 litre water bottles and egg cartons for some time now. All with the intention of using in the garden. The cardboard boxes are to kick off my "no dig" gardening theme for this upcoming season! Never done it before, but have watched like a gazillion YouTube videos and it seems like such a sensible and far easier method to get any kind of garden going whilst simultaneously (mostly) eliminating the pain in the rear end of weeds, grass etc.

The bottles I have been using for quite some time already and have found them to be an extremely effective method for creating a sort of "greenhouse" environment for anything which I plant into the ground, giving it time to get settled, rooted, or whatever in a more sheltered environment, not only from the elements, but from the birds and critters too.

Though I normally cut the bottoms of the bottles off and stick them into the ground with the open cap on top - and I will be using a few of them like that today... I also have intentions to use them in the same manner, but slightly differently... I want to start planting edible stuff so have started already with a few...

Essentially, cutting the top section off instead, using the full base as a "pot" for the soil and to plant the seeds and once planted... squishing the top section back on, again with the open cap - so the rain and my hosepipe can get in, but still creating that same little "hot house" space for the seedlings. And before anyone asks, yes, I did cut drainage holes into the bases, lol

So that is the primary plan for today... I have a LOT of bottles and bought myself a few bags of potting soil during the week, so we will see how far I get because I also have a few other more aesthetically driven ideas which I would like to get to as well, and I think we all know which one will be pulling at me more, haha! and don't even get started on all the weeding that also needs to be tended to... the old "A weed in time save nine" is ringing loud and true in my head.

So that is the plan, hence I have been up since sparrows fart, because I had other stuff I wanted to do before getting down into the dirt - like write this... and I still have two loaves of sourdough that need to go into the oven.

But, I am excited for it all! Nature gives so much, asks for nothing but a bit of time and a willingness to look closer. I reckon that’s a fair trade. So today, I’m giving her my time. I’m giving “myself” my time, too.

I hope, wherever you are, you find a corner of your day to claim back. Let it be yours. Let it matter… just to you, for you! Have a beautiful Saturday 🧡🌿🌼☕️
